The Port of San Antonio surpasses 11.8 million tons transferred in the first half of the year and reaches one million TEU ahead of schedule
The first half of the year was also marked by a significant milestone for Chilean foreign trade: the Port of San Antonio surpassed one million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) handled, registering a 3.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Furthermore, this threshold was reached a month earlier than last year, when this figure was surpassed in July. Additionally, from July 2025 to June 2026, the year-to-date total is 2,094,341 TEUs, representing a year-on-year increase of 10% compared to the period from July 2024 to June 2025.
The general manager of Puerto San Antonio, Fernando Gajardo, highlighted that these figures reflect the port system’s capacity to respond efficiently to the needs of foreign trade and the coordinated work of all actors in the logistics chain.
“The results of the first half of the year reflect the dynamism of Chilean foreign trade and the responsiveness developed by our port system. Having exceeded one million TEUs earlier than last year confirms a growth trend that demands continued strengthening of operational efficiency and timely planning for the infrastructure that the country will require in the coming years,” he noted.
The executive added that Chile’s challenge lies not only in meeting current demand, but also in ensuring that its port infrastructure has the necessary capacity to support economic development, maintain the competitiveness of foreign trade, and offer resilience in the face of future scenarios. “Port infrastructure is planned decades in advance. Having sufficient capacity and adequate operational margins not only allows us to handle cargo growth, but also delivers greater efficiency, operational continuity, and competitiveness to the entire national logistics chain,” he stated.
Gajardo emphasized that “Puerto San Antonio has promoted various initiatives to increase the efficiency of the port system through the New Logistics Model, improving coordination among the different actors in the supply chain and strengthening the port’s operational availability. These advances, along with the planning of new infrastructure, seek to ensure that the port continues to respond promptly to the needs of foreign trade and the economic development of Chile.”
Performance of other loads
In containerized cargo, during the first half of 2026 the port’s concessioned terminals moved 8,990,755 tons (+3%) and 1,006,456 TEU (+4%), confirming that the main driver of the port’s growth continues to be container transfer.
Performance by cargo type showed particularly significant growth in solid bulk, which increased by 17% to 2,206,872 tons. Meanwhile, breakbulk cargo reached 253,962 tons (-3%), vehicle transfers totaled 126,997 units (-5%), and liquid bulk registered 395,424 tons (-21%) during the first half of the year.
