AI Cuts Port Gate Dwell Times to 30 Seconds—Here’s How

Ports and logistics yards are slashing gate delays to under 30 seconds using AI-powered computer vision, without installing new hardware.

How AI Is Turning Existing Security Cameras Into Gate Operators

EAIGLE’s technology layers computer vision over existing security cameras at gates, yards, and docks. Instead of relying on human guards or manual paperwork, the system automates the entire check-in and checkout process, including bill of lading (BOL) and purchase order (PO) validation. The platform addresses what Hoss calls the TLCC framework: time, labor, claims, and compliance. Before EAIGLE, gate transactions took between 7.5 and 18 minutes, even for CTPAT-compliant shipments. Now, most transactions complete in under 30 seconds, with rare delays exceeding a minute.

Security has also improved. The system validates all paperwork in real time, preventing unauthorised trailer movements. Hoss highlighted a case in Texas where the platform intercepted a trailer theft attempt by flagging discrepancies in the BOL before the trailer could leave the yard. “We not only make it automated and unmanned, but we make it more secure because all the validation of the BOL, the PO, the paperwork happens on the spot in real time,” he said.

Traditional YMS rely on manual updates from shunt trucks, shipping offices, or dispatch teams, leading to outdated or inaccurate data. By contrast, EAIGLE’s system captures real-time data from cameras and scales, ensuring accuracy without human intervention.

From Paperwork to Autonomous Trucks: The Next Frontier

EAIGLE’s platform consists of two core products: Automated Vehicle Access Control (AVAC) and YardSight. AVAC handles gate check-ins and checkouts, while YardSight keeps yard management systems updated continuously using camera feeds. This eliminates the need for shunt trucks or manual updates, which Hoss described as “garbage in, garbage out” when data isn’t validated.

The system’s infrastructure-agnostic approach means it works with any camera system, making it adaptable to ports, distribution centres, and logistics hubs. “Nobody touched that load and trailer all the way to the loading and unloading process,” Hoss said of the future workflow.

For ports and yards struggling with congestion, delays, and labor shortages, the benefits extend beyond efficiency. The platform ensures compliance with regional regulations, such as California’s specific rules for freight documentation or CTPAT requirements for cross-border shipments.

EAIGLE’s 350% year-over-year growth reflects the urgency of modernising port and yard operations. With global trade volumes rising and labor shortages persisting, automation is no longer optional. The company’s success stems from its ability to retrofit existing infrastructure, avoiding costly hardware upgrades while delivering immediate results.
