DP World and Evyap Group have finalized the merger of DP World’s Yarimca terminal with the neighboring Evyapport terminal, located in the port of Izmit on the Asian side of the Bosporus waterway. This strategic consolidation has led to the formation of DP World Evyap, with DP World acquiring a 58% stake in Evyapport and Evyap Group securing a 42% share in DP World Yarımca.

The merger will see the rebranding of the terminals to ‘DP World Evyap Yarımca’ and ‘DP World Evyap Körfez.’ Combined, these terminals will feature 2,088 meters of berthing space, accommodating more than one ultra-large container vessel simultaneously. The integrated operation will have a total annual container handling capacity exceeding 2 million TEU, and will expand to include project and heavy lift cargo services.

This merger leverages DP World’s extensive experience in container handling, customs brokerage, and bonded warehouse services alongside Evyapport’s expertise in container, liquid bulk, and general cargo operations. According to DP World, this synergy will deliver unparalleled service levels. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman and CEO, emphasized that “DP World’s vision is to lead global trade to a stronger, more efficient, and sustainable future. Our strategic partnership with Evyapport advances this strategy in Turkey, one of our most important markets.”

Kris Adams, CEO of DP World Turkey, echoed this sentiment, highlighting that “DP World Evyap’s combination of the respective strengths of our existing infrastructures will provide our customers with a powerful new service offering at the heart of this increasingly important region for global trade.”

Mehmed Evyap, founder and CEO of Evyap Holding, noted that the partnership “combines the global expertise of DP World and the local knowledge of Evyapport and strengthens our presence in the port sector as we expand our investments in this field. The new company will shorten operation times, increase service diversity, and add value to our customers and Turkey’s trade with efficiencies achieved across the two partnership terminals.”

DP World Yarımca is one of the largest container ports on the Sea of Marmara, with an annual capacity of 1.15 million TEU. It is the only port in the Gulf of Izmit specializing in purpose-built container transport. This specialization enables it to efficiently handle high volumes of containerized goods, ensuring swift and effective service for shipping lines and their customers.

New Entity Promises Enhanced Capabilities and Services in Izmit

Evyapport, a key player in East Marmara, is not only an important container terminal but also Turkey’s leading tank terminal for vegetable oil storage, a critical component for Turkish industry. It boasts an annual container capacity of 855,000 TEU and a liquid cargo storage capacity of 1.1 million tonnes. This dual capability allows Evyapport to serve a diverse range of shipping needs, from containerized goods to bulk liquids.

The merger of these two significant entities is poised to create a terminal operation capable of handling a broader range of cargo types and volumes, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency and competitiveness of the port of Izmit. The integration of DP World’s advanced technologies and global best practices with Evyapport’s local expertise is expected to result in improved operational efficiencies, reduced turnaround times, and enhanced service offerings for customers.

This merger represents a significant development in the Turkish port sector, with the potential to boost the region’s role in global maritime trade. By combining their strengths, DP World and Evyap Group aim to create a more robust and versatile port operation that can better meet the evolving needs of the shipping industry and support Turkey’s economic growth.

The creation of DP World Evyap is a strategic move designed to capitalize on the strengths of both partners. For DP World, this merger expands its footprint in a key market and enhances its capabilities in a region that is pivotal to international trade routes. For Evyap Group, the partnership provides access to DP World’s global network and expertise, enabling it to offer more comprehensive services to its customers and enhance its competitive edge.

As global trade dynamics continue to evolve, the newly formed DP World Evyap is well-positioned to respond to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. By fostering innovation, improving efficiency, and expanding service offerings, DP World Evyap aims to set new standards in the port industry and contribute to the growth and development of Turkey’s maritime sector.
