Amazon RelayCon 2026: Carriers Demand More Than Rates

Over 1,000 carriers attended Amazon’s annual event, doubling last year’s turnout.

Over 1,000 carriers gathered at Amazon RelayCon 2026 in Las Vegas to demand sustainable business tools.

Amazon’s annual RelayCon gathering in Las Vegas reached a turning point this year, with attendance doubling to over 1,000 carriers from September 9-11. The event, held at the Horseshoe, marked a shift from hopeful ambition to calculated strategy among small and mid-sized transportation operators.

Unlike previous years where discussions centered on whether to expand, this edition saw carriers arrive with precise financial data. Operators knew their cost per mile, the expense of idle trucks, and had mapped out equipment purchases—seeking validation rather than vague advice. The questions had evolved from “Should we grow?” to “How can we grow efficiently?”

The New Face of Carrier Preparedness: Carriers

Amazon restructured the event into three specialized tracks—build, scale, and optimize—grouping carriers by fleet size. This change fostered more meaningful exchanges, as three-truck operators could compare notes with peers facing similar challenges rather than larger fleets with different priorities.

Industry veterans, some with 25 years of experience, dominated conversations. Their focus extended beyond rates to time and flexibility, emphasizing the need for sustainable business models. After decades of unpredictable schedules, these carriers had refined their operations to prioritize work-life balance without sacrificing profitability.

The keynote sessions, led by John Hartland, Amazon’s Director of North America Surface Transportation, and Craig Fuller of FreightWaves, outlined the company’s commitment to supporting carriers. While specific tools and discounts were introduced, the broader message centered on efficiency improvements.

Amazon’s Response: Tools for Long-Term Growth

Amazon highlighted upcoming holiday volume projections, expecting to move 4 million loads with weekly peaks reaching 300,000 by December. The company also previewed enhancements to its Relay Assistant platform, designed to address operational hurdles like trailer availability and site closures.

The event concluded with carriers leaving not just with ideas, but with concrete plans—timelines, next steps, and measurable goals. After years of uncertainty, the industry appears to be moving toward a more structured, data-driven future.
