Volvo locks in powertrain repairs with single monthly payment for fleets
New Silver Service Contract bundles engine, transmission and clutch repairs into Volvo’s Blue maintenance plan for VNL.
Volvo Trucks North America has launched the Silver Service Contract, bundling powertrain repairs into its connected Blue maintenance plan to give fleets a single monthly payment for both preventive and unplanned work.
Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America, said the move was driven by rising repair costs, which jumped 8.6% in 2025 to 21.5 cents per mile, up from 19.8 cents in 2024. “That is real peace of mind.
What the Silver Service Contract covers: Volvo
The Silver plan extends the existing Blue Service Contract, which already uses connected-vehicle data and artificial intelligence to tailor service schedules based on real-world operating conditions. These conditions include fuel consumption, transport cycle, gross combination weight, topography and idle time. The new coverage adds repairs for the engine, aftertreatment system, transmission and clutch, including the wearable clutch lining kit. It also covers other select driveline components.

When a truck comes in for an unplanned repair, any preventive maintenance that is due, such as valve adjustments, diesel particulate filter cleaning, diesel exhaust fluid tank flushes, or transmission and rear axle oil changes, can be performed during the same visit. The exact list of scheduled work varies depending on the contract’s mileage terms, which Volvo has not disclosed. The company also did not reveal how the Silver plan interacts with Volvo’s standard truck warranty or whether mileage caps apply.
Silver is available for Volvo’s all-new VNL and VNR truck models and is sold through the company’s network of nearly 400 authorised dealers across the United States and Canada. Customers can opt for additional services, including annual Department of Transportation inspections, truck washes, on-site maintenance and pickup and delivery, though availability varies by location.
How fleets benefit from the new plan
One of the key advantages of the Silver Service Contract is its integration with Volvo Financial Services. Fleets financing a truck through Volvo can bundle the contract into their monthly payments, spreading the cost over the financing period without incurring additional interest. This simplifies budgeting by consolidating maintenance and repair expenses into a single, predictable payment.
Each fleet is assigned a Volvo Fleet Manager at a certified dealer, who acts as a dedicated point of contact. The fleet manager uses data transmitted by the trucks to plan maintenance, handle service campaigns, manage recalls and push over-the-air software updates. Voorhoeve emphasised the role of the fleet manager in reducing downtime.
While Volvo has not disclosed pricing for the Silver Service Contract, the company’s third-tier offering, Gold, provides a full-service plan for the VNR Electric model.
According to the American Transportation Research Institute’s 2026 Analysis of the Operational Costs of Trucking, repair and maintenance expenses were the fastest-growing cost category in 2025, outpacing inflation and other operational expenses. The report highlighted that fleets are increasingly seeking ways to lock in costs and reduce financial unpredictability, making bundled service contracts an attractive option.
For fleets considering the Silver plan, the key selling points are cost predictability, reduced administrative burden and access to Volvo’s extensive dealer network. With nearly 400 authorised dealers in North America, the company’s service network is one of the most extensive in the industry, providing fleets with widespread support regardless of where their trucks operate.
The Silver Service Contract is now available for order through Volvo’s dealer network. Fleets interested in the plan should contact their local dealer to discuss pricing, contract terms and optional add-ons tailored to their specific needs. As the trucking industry continues to face cost pressures, solutions like Silver could become increasingly common as manufacturers and fleets seek to balance reliability with financial stability.
