Iran has escalated its control over the Strait of Hormuz, detaining a UAE-linked product tanker and turning back two Chinese-owned very large crude carriers (VLCCs) in a move that sent transit volumes plummeting by 17% in a single day. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy directed the Amara, a 47,931 DWT Liberian-flagged tanker, to Bandar Abbas after intercepting it near Larak Island on Monday.
