Peru strengthens port safety oversight with 211 inspections nationwide between January and May 2026

The Ministry of Transport and Communications, through the National Port Authority, carried out inspections and audits across key terminals to ensure compliance with international safety and security standards

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the National Port Authority (APN), carried out 211 inspections at port facilities nationwide between January and May 2026, as part of efforts to ensure safe and reliable operations within the National Port System.

The interventions included 170 operational inspections aimed at verifying compliance with current regulations and international standards in port safety and security. Of the total, 86 focused on port security and 84 on port safety.

The inspections were conducted at the country’s main maritime and river terminals, including those located in Salaverry, Pisco, Chancay, Matarani, Iquitos, Ilo, and Yurimaguas, among others, where operational conditions and implemented measures to prevent risks in port activities were evaluated.

Additionally, the APN carried out 41 specialized audits: 17 in port security, 15 in port safety, and 9 in special installations, with the aim of strengthening oversight and continuous improvement of processes linked to maritime and logistics transport.

Strengthening a modern and efficient port system

The MTC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening port safety through permanent supervision and coordinated work, consolidating a modern and efficient system aligned with international standards that enhance the country’s competitiveness.
