Peru prepares to welcome the main players in global maritime trade as host of the AAPA LATAM 2025 Congress, the flagship event of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA). In partnership with the National Port Authority (APN), the event will bring together more than 600 leaders in international trade, government authorities, and executives from the world’s leading ports and shipping companies in Lima from June 24 to 27 to discuss the future of the port and logistics sector in the region.

The event comes at a strategic moment for global trade. Peru, increasingly recognized as a logistics-port hub of the South Pacific, is positioning itself as a benchmark in transformation, sustainability, and innovation in port infrastructure. The selection of Peru as the host country confirms a decade of investment, reforms, and strategic vision aimed at connecting its terminals with the world’s main supply chains.

AAPA LATAM 2025 will be a forum for major sector debates, addressing key topics such as port investment, energy transition, resilient infrastructure development, and digital transformation. The event will also highlight the leadership of Peru’s major port terminals, which are now key players in the sector’s transformation across Latin America. Industry leaders agree that this pivotal moment is a historic opportunity to showcase Peru’s potential and strategic capabilities in port systems to the world.

It is an honor for Peru to host this important event, which reaffirms the country—its ports and logistics system—as a valuable benchmark. AAPA LATAM 2025 will allow the world to learn firsthand about our capabilities and vision as a regional logistics hub,” emphasized César Rojas Álvaro, General Manager of the Port of Paracas.

Eduardo Cerdeira, General Manager of Terminales Portuarios Euroandinos (TPE), added:

“Choosing Peru to host a congress of this magnitude is an excellent decision. Our ports are ready to showcase their progress and growing role to the world.”

Mauricio Núñez del Prado Eguiluz, General Manager of the Southern International Terminal (TISUR), noted:

“This important congress will bring together suppliers, clients, and competitors to exchange ideas and explore industry opportunities.”

Marco Hernández Bardelli, General Manager of DP World Callao, added:

“Peru’s selection as the host of AAPA LATAM 2025 recognizes the strategic role the country has consolidated in regional and global maritime trade.”

Carlos Arias de Molina, CEO of APM Terminals Callao, emphasized:

“This platform will allow us to showcase our commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, generating real cooperation opportunities.”

Gonzalo Ríos Polastri, Deputy General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING Ports Chancay Peru, concluded:

“This is a motivational and reflective moment—and an excellent opportunity to review infrastructure projections, equipment, and port interaction with the environment they serve.”

Peru: The Ideal Setting for Business and Logistics Investment

Peru’s selection as the host for AAPA LATAM 2025 is no coincidence—it is the result of a decade of strategic reforms and investments. One example is the Port of Paracas, which received the Green Port Award System (GPAS)recognition from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. The terminal has invested over USD 240 million in infrastructure, with an additional USD 30 million investment package on the way.

Terminales Portuarios Euroandinos, the main agro-export port in Peru—responsible for over 40% of all refrigerated exports in 2024—plans to invest more than USD 100 million by 2029 to keep pace with northern Peru’s dynamic growth.

In the south, TISUR, the concessionaire of the Matarani Port Terminal, has executed 12 public works in the Islay province through the Works for Taxes mechanism, investing 40 million soles over the past five years in sectors such as health, education, sanitation, and transportation.

DP World, which handles approximately 60% of the volume at the Port of Callao and channels 90% of the country’s container trade, exported USD 2.861 billion in mining products and USD 1.575 billion in fishing products in 2024. It also imported USD 4.070 billion in machinery and spare parts, USD 2.290 billion in chemicals, and USD 1.340 billionin food and beverages. The company aims to reduce emissions by 90% by 2030.

APM Terminals is moving forward with the upcoming launch of Phase 3A, marking a milestone in the modernization of the North Multipurpose Terminal. Its capacity for handling multipurpose and grain cargo confirms its status as a world-class port.

Meanwhile, the Port of Chancay, operated by COSCO SHIPPING Ports Chancay Peru, represents the immediate future of transoceanic trade. This terminal aims to significantly reduce logistical times between South America and Asia, redefining maritime trade routes.

The AAPA LATAM 2025 congress in Lima is shaping up to be a unique platform to propel Latin America into a new phase of integration with international trade. Participating in this event is a strategic decision for those who lead, make decisions, plan, or invest in the development of the region’s port infrastructure.
