Marco Polo Marine bets on Korea with $107k offshore JV

Singapore-listed group teams with local partner NSEL to launch Baramgil Offshore.

Singapore-based offshore vessel operator and shipyard group Marco Polo Marine has reinforced its position in South Korea’s maritime sector through a new joint venture with local partner NSEL. The collaboration, named Baramgil Offshore, will specialize in vessel operations, management, and chartering services.

Under the agreement, NSEL holds a controlling 51% stake in the venture, while Baramgil Corporation, 90% owned by Marco Polo Marine’s Taiwan affiliate PKR Offshore, takes the remaining 49%. The Singapore group maintains an indirect 49% interest in PKR Offshore.

The joint venture launched with an initial paid-up capital of approximately $107,000, funded entirely through Marco Polo Marine’s internal resources. Company officials confirmed the transaction will not materially affect earnings or net tangible assets for the financial year ending September 2027.

Financial structure and strategic context: Marco Polo Marine

This initiative builds on a 2023 partnership between PKR Offshore and NSEL targeting South Korea’s offshore wind sector. The collaboration achieved its first operational milestone in 2024 with the deployment of the Korean-flagged crew transfer vessel MP Corus, which supported wind farm construction off the country’s southwest coast.

The South Korean venture aligns with Marco Polo Marine’s broader strategy to grow its offshore wind support fleet across Asia. In July, the company secured a multi-year framework agreement with Siemens Gamesa for two commissioning service operation vessels (CSOVs). While primarily earmarked for Taiwan projects, the contract includes provisions for potential deployments in South Korea and Japan.
