Industrial process instrumentation specialist KROHNE has introduced the OPTIMASS 6400 Coriolis mass flowmeter, a device designed to deliver accurate measurements in extreme operating conditions. The flowmeter combines mass, density, and volume flow measurement with Entrained Gas Management (EGM™) technology, ensuring reliable performance even when gas is present in the process medium.

The OPTIMASS 6400 operates across a wide temperature range, from -200°C to +400°C (-328°F to +752°F), and handles process pressures up to 200 barg (2,900 psig). With an optional accuracy of ±0.05% of the measured value, it meets the precision requirements of applications such as petrochemical process control, LNG services, custody-transfer operations in oil and gas, and concentration measurement in food and beverage production.

Advanced Features for Challenging Conditions: Flowmeter

The flowmeter’s EGM™ technology enables continuous operation despite entrained gas or complex flow conditions. Its optimized flow splitter reduces pressure loss, while the sensor design minimizes crosstalk and mitigates the effects of installation and process variability. These capabilities make it suitable for environments where demanding media properties and process disruptions would typically compromise measurement accuracy.

For safety-critical applications, the OPTIMASS 6400 is SIL 2/3 certified for sizes up to DN200 (8 inches) and supports partial proof testing with coverage of up to 82%. Users can access commissioning, verification, diagnostics, and monitoring functions via a secure Bluetooth® connection within a 20-meter (65.6-foot) range. Remote access through HART® is also available for safety-related applications.

The device includes fast, fully digital signal processing, integrated temperature measurement, and comprehensive diagnostics compliant with NE 107 standards. On-site verification is possible using KROHNE’s OPTICHECK service tool.

Flexible Configurations for Diverse Applications

The OPTIMASS 6400 is available in flange sizes from DN10 to DN300 (½ inch to 12 inches) and offers three sensor-material options, including Duplex and alloy 22. Its design allows for self-draining installation when mounted vertically and can be configured with heat tracing and a purge port. The flowmeter supports multiple communication protocols, including HART 7, Modbus, Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS-PA/DP, PROFINET, PROFINET with Ethernet-APL, EtherNet/IP™, and Bluetooth®.

Certified for hygienic, custody-transfer, API, and AGA requirements, the OPTIMASS 6400 is adaptable to industries with strict regulatory standards, from oil and gas to food and beverage production.
