BERGÉ has reached an agreement with India’s Seaport Lines — part of the Seapol Group — to act as its agent in Spain. Specifically, it will offer a new container cargo service connecting Valencia and Barcelona with India, thereby contributing to the commercial development between Spain and this Asian country, now the world’s fourth-largest economy, surpassed only by the United States, China, and Germany. With this new connection, Valencia and Barcelona join other major ports with significant exports to India, such as the ports of Bilbao, Vigo, and Algeciras.

This new collaboration strengthens BERGÉ’s extensive coverage from any of the Spanish ports where it operates to any Indian port destination, especially key hubs like Nhava Sheva, Mundra, and Chennai.

BERGÉ will support Seapol in its European expansion plan at a time when bilateral trade between India and Spain has accelerated over the past decade, increasing from $4.7 billion to the current $7.25 billion.

Spain’s main exports to the Indian market include beverages, machinery and mechanical equipment, chemicals, and plastics. In fact, Spain is now the 15th largest investor in India. In this context, both Barcelona and Valencia play a key role — the Port of Barcelona alone handles over 40% of the maritime trade between the two countries.

This relationship is expected to grow further in the coming years due to the search for new markets in the East, a strategy promoted by both the European Union and Spain as part of efforts to diversify export income sources.

For BERGÉ, this agreement is a natural step in its strategy to connect Spanish exports with major international markets, given its strong presence in the country’s main ports. Over the past five years, it has signed several regular line agreements with India and expanded project cargo services with both India and China. This is in addition to its customs expertise, both in direct services and consulting — a crucial asset in an increasingly uncertain global trade environment.
