A 12-metre uncrewed vessel has autonomously launched multiple surface drones for the first time, proving that robots can now deploy robots in coordinated maritime missions. The breakthrough, part of a UK Defence Innovation (UKDI)-backed programme, saw the Oceanus12 deploy two Oshen C-Star drones, lightweight, sail and solar-powered vehicles designed for high-quality acoustic data collection. The trial, conducted in collaboration with partners Oshen and MarineAI, showcased how a single autonomous platform can extend operational reach while reducing risks to human personnel in hazardous environments.
