The initiative aims to boost operational capacity and strengthen Acapulco’s position in the international cruise market.

In a milestone event marking a turning point in the transformation of the port, the Administration of the National Port System Acapulco, S.A. de C.V. held the Ceremony for the Signing of the Partial Assignment Agreement of Rights and Obligations corresponding to the Comprehensive Tourism Project, held at Pier Section 1 within the port area.

The ceremony formalized the partnership between this Port Administration and Global Ports Holding Limited (GPH), a leading global operator in the development and management of cruise terminals, with a presence in various countries and strategic ports worldwide.

As a result of Public Tender Process ASIPONA/ACAPULCO/PROYECTO-TURISTICO-INTEGRAL/01/25, the company was awarded the contract for the development of the project, making Acapulco its first operational point in Mexico and marking a milestone in its expansion strategy in the country.

Led by its Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Mehmet Kutman, GPH has a solid track record in the modernization and operation of tourism port infrastructure, reinforcing confidence in the implementation of this strategic project.

The event was attended by Kerem Seckin, and Mike Maura, who signed the contract. Representatives from the tourism sector at both state and municipal levels were also present. Likewise, authorities from all three levels of government attended, along with representatives from the maritime and port sector, as well as regulatory and security agencies linked to port operations.

This project represents one of the most significant efforts for the modernization of the port, as it integrates a strategic vision aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure and consolidating Acapulco as a competitive destination within the international cruise market.

The project originates from the provisions established in the Port Master Development Plan, as part of a strategy to strengthen the port’s tourism infrastructure.

Based on this framework, the Port Administration issued a call for proposals aimed at companies interested in developing the Comprehensive Tourism Project, in which Global Ports Holding Limited (GPH) participated and, following the corresponding evaluation process, was awarded the contract for the execution of the project.

The signed agreement provides for the use of a strategic area within the port facility, integrating four key components: the cruise terminal, a multipurpose warehouse, a vacant land plot, and a new pier designed to accommodate next-generation cruise ships.

The project will be developed in phases, focusing on the modernization and expansion of the cruise terminal, with the aim of improving operational capacity and passenger services; the construction of a new pier to receive next-generation vessels; and the development of a public leisure center featuring dining areas and natural pools, conceived as a recreational and social space for both visitors and the local population.

These actions will increase the port’s operational capacity, improve the quality of services offered, and position Acapulco as a key hub in international cruise routes.

Additionally, the project will contribute to job creation, strengthen the local economy, and attract new investment, consolidating an environment conducive to sustained port growth.

The participation of a globally experienced company such as Global Ports Holding Limited represents a strategic element to ensure the proper execution of the project, as well as the implementation of international standards in port operations.

In this regard, in coordination with this Port Administration, plans are in place to strengthen the international promotion of the port through participation in specialized industry forums, such as Seatrade Cruise Global 2026 in Miami, where the already formalized Comprehensive Tourism Project will be presented.

The signing of this contract not only strengthens the port’s infrastructure but also promotes a comprehensive development vision that aligns public and private sector efforts, benefiting the destination’s overall competitiveness.

Through initiatives of this kind, steady progress is being made toward consolidating Acapulco as a benchmark in tourism and port development, capable of meeting the demands of the global environment and generating new opportunities for the region.

Finally, the Administration of the National Port System Acapulco reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting strategic projects that strengthen the port’s comprehensive development, through the attraction of investment, the modernization of its infrastructure, and coordination with different sectors.
