Advantage Tankers bets big: 8 more ships to hit 50-vessel fleet by 2030

Geneva-based owner adds two LR2s and two MR2s to its newbuilding programme, pushing its orderbook to 22 vessels.

Advantage Tankers expands its fleet with orders for two LR2 and two MR2 product tankers at Chinese yards.

Geneva-based Advantage Tankers has accelerated its fleet expansion with new orders for product tankers, reinforcing its position in both the medium-range and large product carrier segments. The company, led by chief executive Tuğrul Tokgöz, has added two LR2 vessels to its growing orderbook, alongside an increase in its MR newbuilding programme.

The latest additions include two 114,000-deadweight-tonne (dwt) LR2 product tankers, Advantage Lucky and Advantage Loft, ordered at China’s Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC). Both ships are scheduled for delivery in late 2029 and early 2030, respectively, and have already secured long-term charters with an undisclosed oil major.

New orders and fleet growth: Advantage

In parallel, Advantage has expanded its MR newbuilding programme at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI). The company initially ordered four 49,900 dwt MR2 tankers, but has now increased the total to six, with the additional pair set for delivery in 2030. While the contract price remains undisclosed, recent comparable orders at the yard have been valued at approximately $45 million per vessel.

These latest orders bring Advantage’s total newbuildings to 22 ships, nearly matching its current operational fleet of 28 vessels. The company, controlled by Nazlı Williams, has set an ambitious target of reaching a 50-vessel fleet by 2030, reflecting its long-term growth strategy.

Diversification and future-ready propulsion

Advantage’s expansion extends beyond product tankers. Earlier this year, the company ordered two 307,000 dwt very large crude carriers (VLCCs) at DSIC, the Advantage Venture and Advantage Voyager, with deliveries planned for 2028 and 2029. Additionally, it has built a significant suezmax orderbook in South Korea, including the 157,000 dwt Advantage Spirit and Advantage Synergy, each priced at $88.25 million.

All newbuildings in the company’s orderbook feature LNG dual-fuel capability, aligning with Advantage’s preference for environmentally conscious propulsion systems. This approach underscores its commitment to future-proofing its fleet amid evolving industry regulations and market demands.
