The Bunkering & Sustainability Forum – Tenerife 2025

The inaugural Bunkering & Sustainability Forum will be held on Tenerife in November. It is a new event focused on marine fuel strategies for islands and mid-sized ports. The event is designed to examine the current and future availability of traditional and alternative fuels in these ports and the infrastructure and maritime facilities needed to support them.

ship.energy announce an exciting new event, the Bunkering & Sustainability Forum (#BASF25) that will take place on Tenerife in the Canary Islands.

This event is designed to examine the fuel strategies that islands and mid-sized ports are having to address and the investment decisions they must make to meet increasingly stringent environmental requirements. It will focus on current and future fuels as well as port infrastructure and facilities with a view to determining which fuel options Tenerife and similarly sized markets may choose to make available to shipping in the future.

Tenerife, like other islands and small bunkering hubs, has no indigenous bunker supply so must import 100% of the fuel that it supplies. While storage and delivery facilities are generally available for traditional fuels, this cannot always be said about new fuels such as methanol, biofuels and ammonia. So, as demand increases for these fuels, islands like Tenerife must plan carefully to secure the fuels that ships need without wasting time and money on fuels that are not required or not economically viable.

The event is hosted by the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife which aims to bring together similar bunkering hubs to share their experiences and to attract bunker suppliers to the island with a view to supporting its marine fuels infrastructure.

BASF25 consists of a one-day training course on Alternative Fuels, a high-level Round Table on sustainability, a Flagship Conference, and two spectacular receptions. It will culminate with a unique tour of the port, its bunkering facilities, and its sheltered anchorage.
