TGS reprocesses 14,691 sq km of Ivory Coast seismic data to lure majors
Norwegian seismic specialist TGS partners with Côte d’Ivoire authorities to reprocess deepwater data.
Norwegian seismic data specialist TGS has initiated a major reprocessing project off the coast of Ivory Coast to enhance imaging of potential oil and gas reservoirs in the region’s deepwater basins.
The MC3D Vision PSDM reprocessing project, announced on October 20, covers 14,691 square kilometers of 3D seismic data originally acquired by TGS between 2014 and 2018. The area spans the deepwater Côte d’Ivoire and San Pedro Basins, where complex geological structures have historically posed challenges for accurate subsurface imaging.
Project scope and objectives: Ivory Coast
The reprocessing effort targets issues such as significant overburden velocity variations, which can distort images of deeper geological formations. By applying modern pre-processing techniques, advanced velocity model building (including E-DMFWI), and Kirchhoff PSDM imaging, TGS aims to deliver clearer definitions of reservoir intervals and stratigraphic features. These improvements are expected to help operators assess exploration prospects with greater precision.

TGS is conducting the project in collaboration with Ivory Coast’s Direction Générale des Hydrocarbures and the national oil company PETROCI. Initial results, described as fast-track products, are scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2027, with final deliverables expected in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Timeline and regional context
The initiative aligns with heightened offshore exploration activity in Ivory Coast, where companies such as Petrobras and ExxonMobil have shown increased interest. It also forms part of TGS’s broader MC3D Vision reprocessing program across West Africa, which seeks to modernize legacy seismic datasets to support the region’s energy sector.
David Hajovsky, TGS’s Executive Vice President of Multi-Client, stated that the enhanced imaging would “enable operators to identify and evaluate prospects with greater confidence, reduce subsurface uncertainty, and mature exploration opportunities across Ivory Coast.”
