Northern Lights Taps Diesel Marine NZ for Australia & South Pacific Push

Seattle-based manufacturer appoints Auckland firm to distribute generators.

Northern Lights
Diesel Marine NZ will distribute Northern Lights marine generators and propulsion engines across New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific.

Under the agreement, Diesel Marine NZ will supply the full Northern Lights range, including marine generator sets from 5 kW to 760 kW, Lugger propulsion engines and Technicold air conditioning and refrigeration units, alongside genuine parts, warranty support and technical service.

Jesse Joe-Low-Low, the company’s owner, has worked with Northern Lights products for more than two decades, including his tenure with the brand’s previous New Zealand distributor, Whiting Power. His team’s familiarity with the equipment and the region’s ports was a key factor in the appointment.

“The South Pacific is home to a wide range of boating customers, from commercial fishing and charter fleets to long-range cruising yachts and racing yachts,” said Blain Middleton, President of Northern Lights. “Jesse and his team know our equipment and they know these ports of call. With Diesel Marine NZ NZ stepping up as the distributor for the region, Northern Lights customers in New Zealand, Australia and the islands will have faster access to parts, expert service, and the reliability Northern Lights is known for.”

Diesel Marine NZ, headquartered in Mount Wellington, Auckland, specialises in marine engineering and diesel service for both commercial and pleasure vessels. The company is already an authorised dealer for Northern Lights generators and Lugger engines, and its factory-trained technicians service vessels throughout New Zealand and the wider Pacific.

The manufacturer’s portfolio includes marine generator sets ranging from 5 kW to 760 kW, commercial-duty generators, Lugger propulsion engines, and Technicold chilled water and direct expansion air conditioning, refrigeration and ice machines.

“Northern Lights has a reputation for building equipment that is reliable, durable and simple to maintain, and that is exactly what operators here need when they are a long way from port,” said Jesse Joe-Low-Low, owner of Diesel Marine NZ. “We are proud to represent Northern Lights, Lugger and Technicold across the region, and we are committed to backing every installation with responsive local support.”

The appointment also reflects broader trends in the marine equipment market, where manufacturers are increasingly seeking to partner with regional specialists to improve service levels and reduce downtime for customers. For Northern Lights, the move is part of a wider push to strengthen its presence in key markets outside the United States, where the company has been a leading supplier of marine power solutions for decades.

Diesel Marine NZ’s expanded role will not only benefit new customers but also existing users of Northern Lights equipment, who will now have access to enhanced warranty support and a broader range of technical services. The company’s factory-trained technicians are already active in ports across New Zealand and the Pacific, and the new distribution agreement is expected to further streamline the supply chain for parts and repairs.

For operators in Australia and the South Pacific, the deal removes a layer of complexity in sourcing and maintaining Northern Lights equipment. Instead of dealing with multiple intermediaries, customers can now rely on Diesel Marine NZ for everything from initial purchase to ongoing service and support, a model that aligns with the growing demand for integrated solutions in the maritime sector.

The full Northern Lights range will be available through Diesel Marine NZ, including the company’s flagship marine generator sets, which are used in a variety of applications from small pleasure craft to large commercial vessels. The Technicold brand, known for its marine air conditioning and refrigeration systems, will also be part of the offering, providing operators with a comprehensive suite of climate control solutions.

As the maritime industry continues to evolve, partnerships like this one highlight the importance of local expertise in supporting global equipment manufacturers. For Northern Lights, the appointment of Diesel Marine NZ as its regional distributor is a strategic move that promises to deliver faster, more reliable service to customers across New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific.
