Mumbai-based Seven Islands Shipping has expanded its fleet with the acquisition of a 50,000-deadweight tonnage (dwt) vessel, formerly known as the MTM Mississippi. The 2006-built ship, now renamed Inspire, was purchased from MT Maritime for approximately $15.5 million. This deal represents the company’s second medium-range (MR) tanker purchase this year, bringing its total fleet to 19 handysize vessels in this segment.

Seven Islands Shipping, backed by Fairfax Financial Holdings, has rapidly grown its fleet from 14 vessels in 2019 to 29 ships today. This expansion has positioned the company as India’s second-largest private tanker operator. The latest acquisition has also pushed the total value of its fleet past a significant threshold, with industry tracker VesselsValue estimating its current worth at $612.9 million. This marks the first time the company’s fleet valuation has exceeded half a billion dollars.

The company’s focus on the MR tanker segment has allowed it to build one of the largest fleets in South Asia. With nearly 20 vessels in this category, Seven Islands is increasingly competitive in negotiating charter rates and securing long-term contracts with refiners and traders. The steady growth reflects a broader trend in India’s private tanker sector, where consolidation and fleet modernization are reshaping the industry landscape.
