Spanish ports recorded over 10 million passenger movements.
Ports of general interest handled 181,973,488 tonnes during the first four months of 2025, representing a 1.9% decrease compared to the same period in 2024, according to provisional data.
The first four months of the year were marked by weather instability, which led to temporary closures of several ports, as well as instability in global trade caused by the geopolitical situation and uncertainty surrounding U.S. tariffs. This has resulted in declines in maritime traffic worldwide.
General cargo fell by 0.7% through April, totaling 91.3 million tonnes. Conventional cargo rose by 3.3% to 29.2 million tonnes, while containerized cargo declined by 2.4% to 62.1 million tonnes compared to the same period last year.
TEUs recorded no variation in the first four months of 2025 compared to 2024, standing at 5.8 million tonnes. The downward trend in transshipment TEUs (-5.3%) has continued since the beginning of 2025, while import-export TEUs rose by 8.1%.
Solid bulk traffic closed the four-month period with a 1.3% decrease compared to the same period last year, totaling 26.9 million tonnes.
Liquid bulk traffic dropped by 3.7% (compared to -10.8% in January, -7% in February, and one point less than March), totaling 58.7 million tonnes.
Ro-ro traffic grew by 2.9%, reaching 24.8 million tonnes.
The number of merchant vessels calling at Spanish ports fell by 0.6% during the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, totaling 49,087 vessels, while gross tonnage increased by 1.5%.
Passenger traffic rose by 12.4% through April compared to the same months of 2024, reaching 10.6 million movements.
