Floating Power Plant Strengthens Advisory Board with Global Energy Leaders
SHARE

Floating Power Plant (FPP), a Danish renewable energy technology developer, is proud to announce the expansion of its End User Advisory Board with the addition of three major companies: Spanish energy giant Repsol, Irish energy company ESB, and a significant undisclosed player in the oil and gas industry. This strategic expansion supports FPP’s flagship demonstrator project, P-Demo, which has been awarded a €26 million grant by the European Commission’s Innovation Fund.

The P-Demo project, also referred to as the SEAWORTHY initiative, aims to launch the world’s first floating wind platform that integrates onboard hydrogen production and storage, enabling renewable energy on demand for the grid. Set to be deployed off the coast of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, the platform combines floating wind and wave energy technologies, representing a groundbreaking advancement in the offshore renewable energy sector.

Petter Øydegard, Asset Manager Blane at Repsol Norge, states:

“Repsol Norge AS is pleased to participate in the FPP P-DEMO advisory board. We aim to leverage our expertise to foster innovation and promote sustainable practices within the energy sector. This collaboration supports our commitment to advancing technological development and we anticipate that this partnership will yield valuable insights. ”

Describing their involvement, Des Lalor, Technology Manager at ESB, stated:

“ESB Innovation are pleased to join the advisory board for the SEAWORTHY project, led by FPP. The project plans to integrate floating wind and wave resources to generate electricity while utilizing excess power to produce and store hydrogen. ESB has an active interest in floating wind, wave energy, and hydrogen production, so this project matches ESBs areas of interest very well. We look forward to working with FPP and all the project partners on this innovative project.”

The third newcomer to the advisory board, though currently undisclosed, is recognized as a major worldwide player in the oil and gas industry, bringing valuable expertise and a global perspective to the project.

These new members join an already impressive advisory board that includes:

  • Air Liquide: A world leader in gases, technologies, and services for industry and health.
  • Capital Energy: An energy company focused on renewable energy development.
  • Island Innovation: A consultancy specializing in sustainable development and renewable energy solutions for island communities.
  • TechnipFMC: A global leader in energy projects, technologies, systems, and services.
  • Three confidential members from the project development and energy major community.

The primary aim of the advisory board is to offer expert insights, practical use cases, and essential requirements that will guide the SEAWORTHY project towards success. By leveraging the collective knowledge and experience of industry leaders, FPP aims to accelerate the development and deployment of its innovative technology.

Significant EU Funding Highlights Project Potential

The €26 million grant from the European Commission’s Innovation Fund underscores the project’s potential to revolutionize the future of renewable energy and offshore technologies. The funding enables FPP to advance the P-Demo project, paving the way for scalable, renewable energy solutions that integrate wind, wave, and hydrogen technologies.

Chris McConville, Head of Commercial and Operations, in Floating Power Plant, explains:

“Receiving this substantial grant from the European Commission is a testament to the innovative nature and potential impact of our technology. With the support of our expanded advisory board, we are confident in our ability to deliver a groundbreaking solution that addresses the global demand for clean, reliable, and on-demand energy.”

By combining multiple renewable energy sources with hydrogen production and storage, the platform offers a versatile and resilient energy solution capable of meeting fluctuating energy demands. The project’s success could open new markets and investment opportunities in offshore renewable energy and hydrogen infrastructure.
