GCC Ports to Save 75% Space with Collapsible Containers: GenFlat’s
GenFlat’s collapsible shipping containers stack four-high when empty, cutting storage needs by 75% in GCC ports.
GenFlat Holdings has signed a strategic partnership with AlZahid to introduce collapsible shipping containers across the Gulf Cooperation Council, starting with Saudi Arabia.
The agreement, announced on 4 September 2026, appoints AlZahid as GenFlat’s exclusive commercial partner in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and primary regional partner for the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. AlZahid will lead market development, engaging ports, terminals, shipping lines, third-party logistics providers and government stakeholders.
How the collapsible containers work: collapsible shipping containers
GenFlat’s containers collapse when empty and stack four-high, reducing the footprint of empty boxes by 75 %. The design aims to cut freight, handling and storage costs while lowering emissions and easing congestion at ports and container yards. Drew Hall, GenFlat’s Chief Executive Officer, said:
“We are excited to partner with AlZahid as we expand our presence in one of the world’s most dynamic logistics corridors. The GCC represents a strategically important region as governments and industry stakeholders invest heavily in logistics infrastructure, efficiency, and sustainability.
AlZahid’s deep regional relationships, market knowledge, and execution capabilities make them an ideal partner to help introduce our collapsible shipping containers across the GCC. Through this agreement, we believe we can support disciplined market entry while accelerating the adoption of solutions that improve logistics efficiency and reduce environmental impact across global supply chains.”

Why the GCC is the target market
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is investing billions in ports, transportation infrastructure and logistics capacity to strengthen its position on international trade corridors. Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, for example, aims to make the kingdom a global logistics hub, while the UAE and Qatar are expanding port capacity ahead of expected trade growth.
Eng. Abdulrahman Alzahid, Group Chief Executive Officer of AlZahid Holding, said:
“We see significant potential in GenFlat’s collapsible shipping solutions to improve container utilisation, reduce empty repositioning and storage costs, optimise yard capacity, and support more efficient and sustainable logistics operations.
This partnership aligns closely with Saudi Arabia’s ambition to strengthen its position as a global logistics hub under Vision 2030. We look forward to working closely with GenFlat to introduce this technology to customers in Saudi Arabia and progressively across the broader GCC region.”
AlZahid will focus on engaging key stakeholders, including port authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines and logistics providers. The partnership combines GenFlat’s proprietary container technology with AlZahid’s regional market knowledge and execution capabilities, aiming to establish a long-term platform for GenFlat’s commercial expansion across the GCC.
Meraki Partners, a boutique advisory firm, played a central role in structuring the partnership, bringing the two companies together and aligning their strategic and commercial objectives.
By reducing the space required for empty boxes, GenFlat’s containers could free up yard capacity, cut storage costs and improve asset utilisation. The technology also aligns with the maritime sector’s growing focus on sustainability, as fewer empty repositioning voyages mean lower emissions.
The next steps for the partnership include pilot projects at select GCC ports, with a focus on demonstrating the operational and financial benefits of collapsible containers. AlZahid and GenFlat will work with local stakeholders to identify suitable test sites and develop implementation plans. Industry observers will be watching closely to see whether the technology can deliver on its promise of lower costs and improved efficiency.
