Spanish ports exceeded 29 million passenger movements.
Spanish Ports of general interest handled 368,695,057 tons through August 2025, representing a 2.3% decrease compared to the same period last year, according to provisional data. These figures are in line with the trend since the beginning of the year, marked by weak global trade stemming from geopolitical and economic uncertainty. By type of cargo, general cargo remained stable, with a strong increase in conventional cargo, compared to a decline in bulk cargo.

General cargo registered a 0.2% decline in the first eight months of the year, reaching 188 million tonnes, with a 4.2% increase in conventional cargo, reaching 59.8 million tonnes, while containerized cargo fell by -2.1% (128 million tonnes) compared to the same period last year.
TEUs in Spanish ports registered a 1.9% increase, reaching 12.4 million units through August. The downward trend in transit TEUs (-2.2%) since the beginning of the year continues, although at a more moderate pace. However, import-export TEUs continue their upward trend (+8.2%) in Spanish ports.

Solid bulk cargo registered a 6.6% decrease compared to the same period last year, with a cumulative total of 52.6 million tons. Liquid bulk cargo decreased 3.1%, to 118.1 million tons, due to lower movement of crude oil and derivatives.
Ro-ro traffic grew by 3% to exceed 50 million tonnes.
The number of merchant vessels in Spanish ports decreased by 2% compared to the first eight months of the previous year, with a total of 109,849 vessels, while gross tonnage increased by 0.6%.
Passenger traffic increased by 5% through August compared to the same period in 2024, exceeding 29.3 million movements.
