G2 Ocean names SK Lim CEO as English shifts to Gearbulk leadership
Norwegian open-hatch specialist appoints Pacific chief SK Lim as CEO from January 2027.
Norwegian shipping company G2 Ocean has announced a leadership transition set to take effect on January 1, 2027. SK Lim will become the new chief executive, while current CEO Arthur English will assume dual roles as board chair of G2 Ocean and CEO of its majority shareholder, Gearbulk.
The executive reshuffle follows a shift in Gearbulk’s ownership. Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) now controls 72% of Gearbulk, with Marubeni Corporation holding the remaining 28%. This change in shareholding has prompted adjustments across the group’s leadership structure.

Lim, who has led G2 Ocean’s Pacific operations since March 2020, will replace English at the helm. His appointment comes after overseeing a region that has grown in strategic importance for the company. English, who took over as G2 Ocean’s CEO in January 2020, previously served as its chief commercial officer after joining from Gearbulk in 2017.

English’s return to Gearbulk marks a full-circle moment, having spent over two decades with the company before his move to G2 Ocean. Kristian Jebsen, currently serving as executive chair of G2 Ocean and as chair and CEO of Gearbulk, will step down from both positions as part of the transition.
Company outlook under new leadership
G2 Ocean, established in 2017 through a partnership between Gearbulk and Grieg Maritime Group, operates a fleet of over 120 vessels across more than 30 trade routes. The company specializes in transporting commodities such as pulp, paper, forest products, aluminum, steel, industrial minerals, and project cargo. In a statement, English endorsed Lim’s appointment, saying:
«I have strong confidence in SK as the right person to lead G2 Ocean forward.»
