Union Vega Offshore has commissioned two next-generation platform supply vessels (PSVs) from Fujian Mawei Shipyard, with the option to expand the order by four additional units. The contract, awarded to Norwegian design firm Breeze Ship Design, marks a significant step in modernizing offshore support fleets.

The vessels will be built according to Breeze’s Z 4409 design, featuring 900 square meters of deck space and measuring 84 meters in length. Delivery of the first PSV is scheduled for 2028, with the second to follow shortly after. The design incorporates battery-hybrid propulsion, a moonpool, and accommodation for up to 44 personnel, aligning with industry demands for efficiency and sustainability.

Versatile capabilities for evolving offshore needs: Breeze Ship Design

The Z 4409 PSV is engineered to perform beyond traditional supply duties. Its specifications include preparation for a 50-tonne Active Heave Compensated (AHC) crane, which would enable the vessels to support light construction, geophysical surveys, and seismic operations. This adaptability positions the design as a multi-role asset for offshore operators.

Partnership drives innovation in vessel design

The contract strengthens an existing collaboration between Breeze Ship Design and Fujian Mawei Shipyard, with Union Vega Offshore as the end client. The project underscores the importance of long-term partnerships in delivering advanced maritime solutions.

“We are delighted to have secured this contract with Fujian Mawei Shipyard, a shipyard with whom we have developed a strong and successful relationship over several years. Together with Union Vega Offshore, we now look forward to taking the next step and delivering a successful project that we believe can set a new benchmark for the next generation of offshore supply vessels.”
