The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the National Port Authority (APN), reported that public-use port terminals in the National Port System handled 17.6 million metric tons between January and March 2026, a figure representing a 4.1% increase compared to the same period the previous year. This result marks a new historical record for port activity and reaffirms the dynamism of Peru’s foreign trade.
According to the APN’s latest statistical report, the highest growth was recorded in rolling cargo, which increased by 62.9%. Also notable were breakbulk cargo, which rose by 10.9%; bulk minerals, with 9.3%; containerized cargo, with 4.1%; and solid bulk cargo, with 0.1%.
Infrastructure improvements drive port activity
These results reflect greater logistical and commercial dynamism at the country’s main ports. This performance is associated with infrastructure improvements and the strengthening of the operational capacity of port terminals, factors that have made it possible to respond to higher demand and optimize the flow and transport of goods.
On the other hand, the sector also highlighted that the performance of the National Port System contributes to increasing the country’s competitiveness, generating greater opportunities for foreign trade, and positioning Peru as a strategic player within regional and international maritime routes.
Commitment to modernization and economic growth
The MTC reaffirmed its commitment to continue promoting port modernization and the development of more efficient logistics services, in order to contribute to the country’s economic development.
