Ports of Las Palmas surpass 3.1 million tons in January

During the month of January, 318,733 cruise passengers visited the ports of the province of Las Palmas, 31.25% more than in the same period of the previous year

The Port of Puerto del Rosario stands out with a remarkable growth of +42.71% in tonnage compared to January 2024, surpassing 150,000 tons.

The Port Authority of Las Palmas has increased its total traffic, reaching 3,125,112 tons in the cumulative total for 2025, representing a +16.95% increase compared to last year—452,948 tons more than in 2024.

The growth recorded for the Port of Las Palmas is 17.03%, with 2,713,754 tons in January; the Port of Arrecife increased its total traffic by +12.10%, reaching 175,111 tons; and the Port of Puerto del Rosario also posted positive figures, with an increase of +42.71% and 152,924 tons. On the opposite side, the Port of Arinaga saw a decrease of -16.19%, with 23,847 tons, while the Port of Salinetas registered a decline of -3.42%, with 59,476 tons.

The president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, highlighted the significant increase experienced by the Port of Puerto del Rosario, with a rise of more than 50% in the number of cruise passengers, nearly 12% in inter-island passengers, and 78% in the number of vessels.

“The 42.71% increase in traffic at this port during January of this year is mainly due to the opening of a new Fred Olsen route from the Port of Las Palmas. In fact, during the first month of this year, Fred Olsen moved 33,000 tons compared to just 7 tons in January 2024,” said Calzada.

Breakdown of data for the five ports of the Port Authority of Las Palmas

The year-on-year variation for January 2025 compared to January 2024 for the five ports of the Port Authority presents the following data in key indicators:

  • Passenger traffic: +21.12% (-3.30% on regular lines and +31.25% on cruise), with a total of 416,065 passengers, compared to 343,509 in the same period of 2024.
  • Cargo: +19.46% with 2,895,346 tons, compared to 2,423,690 in 2024.
  • Frozen fish: +11.05%, with 17,651 tons, compared to 15,894.
  • Fresh fish: -90% with 1 ton, compared to 10 tons in the same period of the previous year.
  • Fuel: -8.07% with 202,208 tons, compared to 219,962 in 2024.
  • TEUs: +22.06% with 133,570 units, compared to 109,432 in 2024.
  • General containerized cargo: +18.78% with 1,471,363 tons, compared to 1,238,756 in 2024.
  • Ro-Ro traffic: +3.28% with 31,915 units, compared to 30,901 in the same period of the previous year.
  • Ro-Ro cargo: +15.98% with 487,137 tons, compared to 420,030 tons in 2024.

Port of Las Palmas

For the Port of Las Palmas, the year-on-year variation for January 2025-2024 shows the following data in key indicators:

  • Passenger traffic: +10.63% (-4.10% on regular lines and +22.76% on cruise), with 224,032 passengers.
  • Cargo: +20.01% with 2,490,569 tons.
  • Frozen fish: +13.60% with 17,129 tons.
  • Fresh fish: -100.00% with 0 tons.
  • Fuel: -8.09% with 201,524 tons.
  • TEUs: +22.85% with 124,714 TEUs.
  • General containerized cargo: +19.21% with 1,399,310 tons.
  • Ro-Ro traffic: -2.51% with 21,061 units.
  • Ro-Ro cargo: +5.74% with 320,547 tons.
