The Moroccan port of Tanger Med closed 2025 with 11,106,164 TEUs handled across its four container terminals and a total of 161 million tons of cargo managed, according to data published by the port authority. These figures represent an 8.4% increase in containers and a 13.3% increase in total cargo compared to 2024.

The increase in container traffic was mainly due to the expansion of the TC4 terminal operated by APM Terminals, which came into service in mid-December 2024. In the case of the rest of the traffic, the evolution was uneven: while liquid bulk cargo advanced strongly, solid bulk cargo declined and the movement of vehicles in specific terminals registered a double-digit drop.

In the ro-ro and roll-on/roll-off cargo sector linked to foreign trade, truck activity reached 535,203 units, 3.6% more than the previous year. In its annual report, Tanger Med attributes this performance to improved export flows, with increases in shipments of industrial products (+4.8%) and agri-food products (+4.3%), two segments that support a significant portion of the land traffic associated with the country’s logistics chains.

Meanwhile, the bulk cargo category shows a clear divergence. Solid bulk cargo totaled 522,493 tons, 11% less than the previous year, due to the postponement of grain imports, according to the Moroccan port authority. In contrast, liquid bulk cargo reached 8,641,481 tons, representing a 13% increase, driven primarily by hydrocarbon traffic.

In the vehicle transport sector , the port complex’s two dedicated terminals handled 526,862 units in 2025, a 12% decrease compared to 2024. The breakdown includes 327,569 vehicles exported from Renault plants (Melloussa and SOMACA), 126,874 from the Stellantis plant in Kenitra, and 39,751 units transshipped, among others. The port attributes this trend to production adjustments aligned with demand and the reconfiguration of flows in global automotive markets.

The report also includes the number of port calls: 16,686 in 2025, a 4.5% decrease compared to the previous year. According to Tanger Med, the decline is mainly due to changes in the ro-pax segment, where some vessels were replaced by larger units capable of carrying more passengers and cargo.

In addition, the number of calls by large vessels increased : the port received 1,319 vessels over 290 meters in length, 8.4% more than in 2024, thanks to measures for the optimization of calls that have improved the operational efficiency of the port.
